After almost three years of being vacant, the U.S. Senate confirmed President Trump’s selection to lead the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Director Aurelia Skipwith was confirmed by a vote of 52-39-9. Most recently, Skipwith was the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Interior for Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
Leadership of the federal agency is vitally important to hunters, anglers and trappers. The Fish and Wildlife Service oversees regional offices across the country in over 700 locations and more than 560 units of the National Wildlife Refuge System. The agency also regulates import permits for American sportsmen hunting abroad, and implements policies involving endangered species and migratory birds.
“Sportsmen and women around the country are encouraged by the appointment of Director Skipwith and look forward to continuing to work with her to maintain and strengthen our American heritage of hunting, fishing and trapping,” said Bruce Tague vice president government affairs for Sportsmen’s Alliance.
