On April 15th, we alerted on Assembly Bill 2571, a bill to prohibit “marketing” firearms and ammunition to children. As discussed previously, this reach of this broadly written prohibition will likely ensnare hunter education programs and firearm safety training for youth. Unfortunately, this draconian bill passed the Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee April 19th.
The next step is a hearing in the California Assembly Judiciary Committee on April 26th. It is imperative that sportsmen and women contact committee members and let them know you oppose this bill because of the unintended consequences it will likely have. There are no exemptions in the bill for education or related instruction.
“It appears the anti-gun crowd in California is pushing for quick and quiet passage of this extreme bill,” said Dillon Barto, Manager of State Services at the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “Sportsmen and women must make their voices heard and respectfully request committee members to do the right thing and protect education for tomorrow’s hunters by opposing this bill.”
California sportsmen who want to protect youth firearm safety programs should contact the members of the Assembly Judiciary Committee before next week’s hearing. Make your voices heard!
