Last week, the Assembly Human Services Committee passed Assembly Bill 262, a bill to require the California Department of Social Services to establish a “stakeholder group” to develop new regulations for youth camps, with a particular emphasis on camps that include firearm safety on “gun ranges” as dangerous and in need of additional regulation and scrutiny.
As previously reported, among the groups cited for inclusion in the “stakeholder group” for making decisions and teaching “gun safety” to youth are “children’s advocates and safety groups.” There is little doubt this will include gun-control organizations that often promote their anti-gun ideology as “gun safety.”
Let’s not forget the laundry list of other entities that will be included in developing regulations and standards for camps that partake in shooting activities on gun ranges: the State Fire Marshall, the Dept. of Public Health, the Dept. of Parks and Recreation and even local health departments are mentioned. Not surprising, there is no mention of groups that have expertise in firearm safety training, even though “gun ranges” are mentioned specifically.
“I guess all that California sunshine has folks blinded into not seeing how quickly youth hunter recruitment will be nothing more than a memory in the state,” said Todd Adkins, vice president of government affairs at the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “Here is another very obvious step toward the final destruction of hunting driven once again by anti-gun nonsense and couched under the guise of public safety.”
AB 262 has been referred to the Assembly Appropriations Committee and a hearing has not yet been scheduled. Sportsmen MUST start contacting their state Assembly Member TODAY and urge them to OPPOSE AB 262 when it comes before them.
Please use our Take Action button to ensure your state Assembly Member receives your email urging them to OPPOSE AB 262. Our children deserve to receive the best instruction on firearm safety, not the political brainwashing that will likely result from the requirements of AB 262.
Don’t forget to share this alert with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen asking them to also contact their Assembly Member urging them to OPPOSE AB 262.
