On Thursday, March 14, at 1:30 p.m., the House Business Affairs & Labor Committee is scheduled to hear three bills that will have a cratering effect on Colorado’s sportsmen.
Senate Bill 24-066 allows credit companies and payment processors to use merchant category codes (MCC) to track firearm, firearm accessories, and ammunition credit card purchases. SB24-066 has already passed the Senate by a vote of 22 to 11.
This is just another scheme that gun-control advocates are using to show they are doing something instead of addressing the real issue of stopping criminals.
House Bill 24-1353 creates a duplicative state permitting system for federally regulated firearm license holders. It also adds additional conditions and requirements for dealers, random inspections, and severe penalties for violations. Federal Firearm Licensed (FFL) dealers are already required to be licensed by the federal government and are highly regulated.
We all know dealers will have no choice but to add additional costs to comply with this new permit and additional requirements to their merchandise, leaving law-abiding sportsmen paying higher prices because the state cannot figure out how to handle the criminal element.
House Bill 24-1270, firearm liability insurance, requires firearm owners to maintain a liability insurance policy that covers losses or damages to a person, other than the policyholder, who is injured on the insured property as a result of any accidental or unintentional discharge of the firearm.
Gun-control advocates claim that requiring insurance will “promote” responsible firearm ownership, along with being able to use the insurance money to offset the cost of violent crime caused by criminals. This tactic, however, is nothing more than an attempt to punish us, the law-abiding, by making us pay for the criminal acts of others.
Please use our Take Action button to email the committee members urging them to vote No on SB24-066, HB24-1353, and HB24-1270.
