Working quickly to protect Wisconsin’s sportsmen and gun owners, today, Jan. 18, the Assembly suspended the rules and passed Senate Bill 466 by a vote of 62 to 35. SB 466 will now be sent to Governor Tony Evers for his consideration.
SB 466 prohibits payment settlement entities, merchant acquiring entities, and third-party settlement organizations from assigning MCCs or otherwise classifying merchants of firearms or ammunition separately from general merchandise or sporting goods retailers. The bill will also state that the Department of Justice (DOJ) may not maintain a list of firearm purchasers based on information from background checks that DOJ performs and that no governmental entity may maintain a list of firearm owners.
