Last year, Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon signed the Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act into law, protecting sportsmen’s credit card purchase privacy. This year, HB 234 was introduced to further strengthen Wyoming sportsmen’s credit card privacy.
The Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act prohibits credit card processors from using or assigning a firearms or ammunition merchant category code (MCC) to any merchant located in Wyoming that is a seller of firearms or ammunition separately from general merchandise retailers or sporting goods retailers.
On January 31, the House Judiciary Committee took steps to strengthen that privacy in the Cowboy State. The committee passed HB 234 by a vote of 7 to 1. HB 234 will now move to the House floor for consideration and could be heard any day. Please use our Take Action button to your state Representative and urge them to support and protect Wyoming sportsmen’s privacy by voting “Yes” to HB 234.
HB 234 will further strengthen sportsmen’s credit card purchase privacy by prohibiting credit card processors from using or assigning an MCC to any merchant that is a seller of firearm accessories or components and not just firearms and ammunition. It will also require the attorney general to investigate allegations of credit card processors of assigning MCCs to retailers in Wyoming.
More good news for sportsmen!
Just as important as our credit card purchase privacy, our hunting rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader and bow, is our hunting dog. It is no secret animal extremists are continually working to stop the use of dogs for hunting. That is why HB 63 is very important; it protects sporting and working dogs doing what they were born and bred to do.
House Bill 63 prohibits a local government from enacting an ordinance or resolution that terminates, bans, effectively bans or creates an undue hardship relating to the job or use of a working animal or animal enterprise in the commerce, service, legal hunting, agriculture, husbandry, transportation, law enforcement, ranching, entertainment, education or exhibition.
Last week, the House Agriculture Committee took steps to do just that. They passed SB 96 by a vote of 8 to 1. It was quickly sent to the House floor for consideration. On January 30, this important bill passed by a vote of 53 to 8.
HB 63 will now be sent to the Senate for further consideration. There has never been a more important time in our history than now to protect our way of life. Keep an eye on your inbox for our alert informing you of HB 63’s House committee assignment and the action that will be needed.
