Last week, Gov. Kim Reynold signed important legislation strengthening Iowa’s firearm preemption law.
Current law prohibits any political subdivision of the state from enacting an ordinance, motion, resolution, policy or amendment more severe than state law. What was lacking in the current law was an enforcement mechanism to ensure local government does not violate the state law.
House File 2556 corrects this oversight by providing an enforcement mechanism of a monetary value to damages resulting from a political subdivision of the state violating the state’s firearm preemption law.
Thanks to your calls and emails the Hawkeye State had two important bills, HF 2256 and HF 2464, signed into law to further protect sportsmen, hunting, fishing and trapping throughout the state.
