Tomorrow, Thursday, March 9, at 2:00 p.m. in room 212 Knott, the House Regulatory Reform & Economic Development Subcommittee is scheduled to hear House Bill 221. HB 221 is the companion bill to SB 214, a bill that protects the privacy rights of sportsmen when using a credit card to purchase firearms or ammunition.
Please use our take action button to email the committee urging them to protect sportsmen and gun owner privacy by SUPPORTING HB 221.
House Bill 221 prohibits payment settlement entities, merchant acquiring entities, and third-party settlement organizations from assigning merchant category codes or otherwise classifying merchants of firearms or ammunition separately from general merchandise or sporting goods retailers.
As previously reported, in September of 2022, the International Organizations for Standardization (ISO) approved the creation of a new merchant code for firearm retailers to use when their customers use a credit card to purchase firearms and ammunition. Last month, Discover Financial Service was the first to announce it will implement the new merchant code in April. The use of this new merchant code is voluntary.
Don’t forget to share this message with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen asking them to contact the committee urging them to support HB 221.
