On Monday, April 17, House Joint Resolution 1157, the constitutional amendment protecting the right to hunt and fish in Florida, passed its second committee referral and is headed to the House floor for final consideration.
As previously reported, 23 states have passed a constitutional amendment protecting their citizens’ right to hunt and fish. HJR 1157 and its companion SJR 1234 propose an amendment to the Florida Constitution to strengthen and preserve hunting and fishing in perpetuity as a public right. If adopted by the Legislature, the proposed amendment will be placed on the 2024 general election ballot for Florida’s voters to approve.
