Twenty-three states have passed a constitutional amendment protecting their citizen’s right to hunt and fish. Yesterday, March 27, the Florida House Agriculture, Conservation & Resiliency Committee and the Senate Environment & Natural Resources Committee both took an important step by passing House Joint Resolution 1157 / Senate Joint Resolution 1234.
HJR 1157/SJR 1234 proposes an amendment to the Florida Constitution to preserve hunting and fishing in perpetuity as a public right. If adopted by the legislature, the proposed amendment will be placed on the 2024 general election ballot for Florida’s voters to approve.
HJR 1157 will now go to the House Infrastructure Strategies Committee for consideration. This proposal has not been placed on the committee agenda yet, but the Sportsmen’s Alliance will inform you when that date has been scheduled. In the meantime, please use our Take Action button to email the committee and urge them to protect hunting and fishing in the Sunshine State by SUPPORTING HJR 1157.
SJR 1234 still has two committees to go through before it can proceed to the Senate floor. Its next stop is the Senate Judiciary Committee. This proposal also has not been placed on the committee agenda yet and the Sportsmen’s Alliance will inform you when that date has been scheduled. When taking action on HJR 1157, please also use our Take Action button to email the Senate committee urging them to SUPPORT SB 1234. It is important you use both Take Action buttons to ensure both committees receive your request supporting these two proposals.
