On Wednesday, May 15th, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry signed Senate Bill 194, important legislation further protecting sportsmen and gun owners throughout the Pelican State.
SB 194 strengthens the state’s firearm preemption law by prohibiting a governing authority of a political subdivision from enacting, or enforcing any ordinance, order, regulation, policy, procedure, rule, or any other form of executive or legislative action more restrictive than state law concerning. The bill also allows individuals and organizations who are adversely affected to file suit against the offending political subdivision in any court for declaratory and injunctive relief. SB 194 takes effect August 1, 2024, and political subdivisions have six months to repeal, rescind, or amend to conform to state law.
