Thanks to your emails and phone calls, the Pennsylvania Senate Game and Fisheries Committee amended Senate Bill 1087 earlier today, removing language that had grave consequences for sportsmen hunting with dogs. The Sportsmen’s Alliance will continue to monitor SB 1087, and other bills of concern all the way through the legislative process to ensure that hunting with dogs stays protected.
SB 1087 would have not only criminalized a wandering dog, but would have led to a hunter who tries to retrieve a dog, even unarmed, being charged with trespassing.
“The Sportsmen’s Alliance thanks Chairman Rothman and the entire committee for recognizing and removing the pitfalls within SB 1087,” said Todd Adkins, vice president of government affairs with the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “An unarmed hunter should not have to worry about becoming a criminal when ensuring the safety of their dog.
After amending and passing SB 1087, the committee passed Senate Bill 67, which gives sportsmen one more day to enjoy the outdoors during hunting season. It now moves to the Senate floor for consideration.
SB 67 completely removes the prohibition of Sunday hunting and trapping in the Keystone State.
Please use our Take Action button below to email your state Senator urging them to vote “Yes” to SB 67. Your state Senator needs to know opening the availability to hunt one more day is important to you and the sportsmen of Pennsylvania.
