Here’s your Spring warning—turkey hunting season is open–or will be opening during the days and weeks ahead in some areas of the United States. In Texas, for example, a youth hunting season opened March 10th and is now open in much of the Lone Star state. If you tire of turkey chasing there, note that the state’s spring alligator season opens Aprils 1.
Florida also opened its first hunting zone for wild turkeys in early March. If you are looking for a challenge note that Florida permits spring turkey hunting “by all legal rifles, shotguns, muzzleloaders, crossbows, bows and pistols.”
Turkey hunting season openers seem to expand north as the calendar moves ahead. Opener days for Ohio, for example, will be in April. If you are wanting a more relaxed hunting pace, Washington state opens its season for gobblers in mid-April (15th) and permits the killing of up to three gobblers. In some areas, however, the limit is only one or two turkeys. In some areas hunters can bag two turkeys per day. Some states limit the use of decoys and end the legal hunting hours at noon.

It’s important to note that in some states, like Missouri, your shotgun must be plugged.
