Monday, March 6, was the legislature’s target date for the transmittal of all legislation between houses. Idaho’s 2023 legislative session has been quiet for sportsmen, but here are a few bills of interest that are continuing to move through the legislative process.
House Bill 143 adds a three-day fur buyers license for non-resident fur buyers. This will promote and enhance the opportunities for Idaho trappers to get the best price and help promote fur sales to out-of-state buyers that are a source of revenue for trappers at annual events. House Bill 144 adds a lifetime license for resident trappers in Idaho.
The following three bills protect Idaho’s firearm industry by ensuring the state does not do business with financial institutions, companies, organizations, etc. who boycott an individual or company that engages in or supports the manufacture, distribution, sale or use of firearms.
House Bill 189 prohibits the state from engaging in contracts with companies that boycott certain business sectors and public contracts disfavoring certain sectors.
House Bill 190 ensures that banks and credit unions, designated by the Idaho State Treasurer as depositories for public monies, do not boycott industries important to our state and the livelihood of our citizens.
House Bill 191 restricts the state from using environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria in evaluating contract bids. ESG criteria have become an additional standard financial institutions and companies have started using when making decisions to work with other companies, businesses, organizations, etc. Issues identified under ESG criteria can relate to the preservation of our environment, consideration of humans, and what a business supports.
