The Senate waived the posting notice and as expected, the newly amended “Fraud & Deceptive” Practices bill, House Bill 218 is being fast-tracked through the rest of the legislative process. In one day, HB 218 passed the Senate Executive Committee and had its 2nd reading in the Senate. HB 218 is now scheduled for 3rd reading and a floor vote, TODAY, May 18. We are expecting HB 218 to continue at its break-neck speed through the legislative process, so please use our TAKE ACTION button to email your state Senator urging him/her to OPPOSE HB 218 immediately. Since there was no public testimony taken on HB 218 this is the only way your state Senator will know sportsmen oppose HB 218.
As we previously reported, HB 218 is the epitome of “fraud & deception” and Attorney General Kwame Raoul applauded himself and the House for passing legislation that never received any public testimony from the citizens of Illinois.
HB 218 as amended, will hold everyone and anyone involved with firearms subject to civil liability if they fail to establish “reasonable control” over the criminal activities of others with a firearm. It is anybody’s guess what “reasonable” means, but knowing how the Attorney General feels about firearms, there is a very broad definition, with only the law-abiding facing a judge in civil court.
To cover all bases, we are asking sportsmen to also email Governor J.B. Pritzker letting him know that sportsmen oppose HB 218. You can use the same Take Action button above to ensure the Governor receives your email requesting him to also oppose HB 218 should it get to his desk.
It is CRITICAL that you share this alert with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen and gun owners asking them to also email their state Senator urging them to OPPOSE HB 218.
