On Saturday, April 15, Gov. Laura Kelly vetoed House Bill 2304, which passed both the House and Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support.
HB 2304, similar to a bill Gov. Kelly vetoed in 2021, would have ensured our children receive the best instruction regarding firearm safety by establishing curriculum guidelines for a standardized firearm safety education program, based on the NRA’s Eddie Eagle gun-safe program, the hunter education program offered by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks or instruction currently certified in schools for such purposes.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance would like to thank Rep. Patrick Penn for requesting the introduction of HB 2304 and all the members of the House of Representatives and Senate who voted for it on their respective chamber floor.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance will continue to monitor the 2023 Kansas legislative session and rest assured we will inform you when action is needed. If you would like to view the legislation, we have been monitoring this session, please visit our legislative map.
