On Monday, April 3, at 10 a.m., in room 436 of the State House, the Criminal Justice & Public Safety Committee will be hearing public testimony on two gun-control bills of serious concern to sportsmen. These bills are a “wish list” for anti-gun politicians who want to restrict our freedom.
Legislative Document 60 requires a 72-hour waiting period between an agreement for the purchase and sale of a firearm and its delivery to the purchaser.
Researchers have shown time and again that waiting periods do nothing to reduce violent crime and stand in the way of lawful self-defense and the purchase of firearms for recreational hunting and shooting.
Legislative Document 168 requires a criminal background check through a federal firearm licensed (FFL) dealer for all private sales, transfers or exchanges, including those at gun shows or from advertising or marketing. There are no exemptions for family or friends.
Anyone with a bit of sense knows that criminals do not get firearms through legal means and they are definitely not going through a criminal background check. This legislation will do nothing to stop criminals from getting a firearm and only adds more restrictions for law-abiding sportsmen and gun owners.
Please use our Take Action button below to email the committee urging them not to restrict the rights of law-abiding sportsmen and OPPOSE LD 60 and LD 168.
Don’t forget to share the message with your family, friends and fellow sportsmen, and ask them to also email the committee to oppose LD 60 and LD 168. Don’t forget to check out our legislative heat map to see the other issues the Sportsmen’s Alliance is monitoring in Maine and around the nation.
