On June 25, the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture will hold a hearing on three bills that would permit Sunday hunting in Massachusetts. The hearing will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife 1 Rabb room. Massachusetts is one of only three states with a near-total ban on Sunday hunting.
Take Action Today! Massachusetts sportsmen should call their state representative and state senator and ask them to vote YES on Sunday hunting. Members can contact their legislator by using the Sportsmen’s Alliance Legislative Action Center.
The three bills take different approaches to repealing the ban on Sunday hunting:
- Senate Bill 487 simply repeals the ban on Sunday hunting, which would allow the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife to include Sundays as it sets seasons.
- House Bill 884 would allow archery hunting on Sundays.
- House Bill 887 would allow Sunday hunting during any deer season.
“Massachusetts Sportsmen deserve the freedom to choose which days they hunt,” said Luke Houghton associate director of state services for Sportsmen’s Alliance. “Sunday hunting prohibitions are harming the future of hunting, taking money out of the economy and denying families time together in the field. There aren’t any good reasons to continue the ban on Sunday hunting.”
