When the Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation and National Rifle Association team up to promote and pass on the outdoors heritage, our youth enjoy a fun and educational day that connects them to the outdoors and builds their skills within several disciplines.
On March 17, the two national organizations collaborated on a youth event in Nashville, Tenn. The Trailblazer Youth Hunter Education Course combined elements from both organization’s programming in an effort to entertain and teach tomorrow’s sportsmen, and voters, more about outdoor opportunities.
More than 60 participants and their families took part in hands-on skills building activities and demonstrations. Included in the activities were clay target shooting, a 3D archery range and an interactive hunter education walking trail. Demonstrations included a waterfowl retriever exhibit and birds of prey program using Harris hawks.
Volunteers came from local Sportsmen’s Alliance and NRA members, and included people local gun clubs, archery teams and retriever clubs. Each expert enthusiast provided decades of knowledge, instruction, safety and experience.
“Hopefully, this was the first of many collaborative efforts between the Sportsmen’s Alliance and NRA on outdoor educational programming for the next generation hunters and shooters,” said Frank Price, director of education for the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “Today’s participants are walking away with a great experience, and a solid foundation upon which to build.”
