Yesterday, May 17, Governor Joe Lombardo vetoed Assembly Bill 355, a bill to prohibit those under 21 from handling or possessing a semiautomatic rifle or shotgun, even while hunting.
In the Governor’s press release, he stated,
“I will not support legislation that infringes on the constitutional rights of Nevadans. As I stated in my letters, much of the legislation I vetoed today is in direct conflict with legal precedent and established constitutional protections. Therefore, I cannot support them.”
In his veto letter on AB 355, he specifically mentions two court cases, one in California and the most recent case in Virginia, where the courts struck down the age restriction law.
“As such, were this bill to become law, it is unlikely it would pass constitutional muster. For these reasons, I veto this bill and return it to you without my signature or approval.”
The Sportsmen’s Alliance thanks the Governor and those legislators who opposed HB 355 for standing up for sportsmen and gun owners in the Silver State.
