Members of the House Environment and Agriculture Committee realize that House Bill 1680 needs work. The committee has scheduled a work session to gather more information or make additional amendments to the bill that can limit your choice of finding your next best friend and sporting/hunting dog.
The committee has scheduled this work session for Wednesday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. in room 301-303. If you have not contacted the committee or would like to do so again, please use our Take Action button today. Let them know HB 1680 does not resolve the puppy mill problem and only adds restrictions, limitations, and hardships for those of us looking to choose our next best friend.
As previously reported, House Bill 1680 redefines retail pet stores to include anyone with a physical facility who “transfers” more than thirty (30) dogs per year at retail. HB 1680 does not stop there. The bill also caps these newly redefined “retail pet stores” to “transferring” the number of dogs at the same number “transferred” in 2023, requires future “retail pet stores” to source dogs from only animal shelters, and prohibits the sale of the “retail pet stores” to only family members.
Don’t forget to share this alert with your family, friends, fellow sportsmen, and fellow dog enthusiasts and ask them also to email the committee urging them to OPPOSE HB 1680.
We cannot stand by and let animal-rights activists dictate our choice of our next best friend by limiting the availability of hunting and sporting dogs you are allowed to choose from to what is available in an animal shelter.
