The 2023 legislative session is looking to adjourn next week, and legislators are pushing hard to get legislation through the process.
Today, March 8, at 1:30 p.m. or ½ hour after floor session, in room 321 of the Roundhouse, the Senate Judiciary Committee is holding a public hearing on two gun control measures that sportsmen need to take action on immediately. Please use our take action button to email the committee urging them to OPPOSE SB 427 and SB 428.
Senate Bill 427 imposes a mandatory 14-day waiting period on all firearm purchases with an exception for concealed handgun licensees. Like HB 100, waiting periods have not been shown to promote public safety. Instead, these arbitrary waiting periods limit the actions of law-abiding citizens, including those who want a firearm for self-defense or for hunting.
Senate Bill 428 works to cripple the firearm industry by instituting new policies and procedures that will make it nearly impossible to engage in the lawful sale and/or trade of firearms in the state. Lawful firearm manufacturers and firearm dealers should not be responsible for crimes committed by third parties outside of their control. This bad policy is motivated by those who simply want to destroy the sporting community because they know that if the industry cannot engage in lawful commerce, hunters and sport shooters cannot hunt and shoot.
