After adjourning the 2023 legislative session on June 10, the Assembly Democratic leadership called the Assembly back to Albany on June 20 – 21 for a host of “clean up” activities, and among other things they quietly passed A2917 without warning, the hunting contest ban.
In this hidden one-day push, the Assembly substituted the Senate companion, S4099 – which had already passed the Senate – into A2917. The Assembly then voted and passed the bill and returned it to the Senate.
Word on the street is Governor Kathy Hochul is actually considering supporting this bill, even though procedural hijinks were used to get it passed.
Please use our Take Action button below to email the Governor asking her to veto A2917/S4099. You know the Governor is hearing from the animal rights extremists to support this anti-hunting measure, so please contact the Governor to ensure she is aware that New York sportsmen are opposed to A2917/S4099.
Do not forget to share this message with your family and friends, as sportsmen throughout the Empire State must continue to stay actively involved to defend our hunting, fishing, and trapping heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.
