After a recent truck crash in Salem, Oregon dumped 5,400 chickens into a car dealership parking lot, the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) asked city officials for permission to erect a memorial 5-foot, 250 pound chicken statue to be placed at the crash site.
That’s right; PETA officials sent a letter to Salem Traffic Engineer, Keven Hottman, asking if he would permit their 5 foot “crippled-chicken sculpture” which depicts a bloody chicken on crutches.
Are you shaking your head like we are?
In the letter to Hottman, PETA official Danielle Katz claims “the best way to prevent crashes such as this one is to go vegan, because chickens shouldn’t have to make the terrifying trip to the slaughterhouse at all.”
Go vegan, or abide by traffic laws and drive more safely as to avoid accidents? We choose traffic laws.
The City of Salem and the Oregon Department of Transportation denied PETA’s request, determining that the statue would be a distraction and safety hazard.
