Participate Today to Protect Tomorrow
On Friday, June 12, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is holding its next meeting to discuss several critical sportsmen-related issues, including public hearings on regulatory changes on mountain lions, state game refuges, big game, wild turkeys, furbearers, and more.
Anti-hunting sentiments and bureaucratic shifts continue to threaten our outdoor heritage. We need a strong turnout from the outdoor community to show the Commission that Nebraska sportsmen demand fair, science-based regulations that preserve our traditions.
Proposals up for consideration include:
- Deer Permit Limits (Order CO3): The recommendation is to reduce the taking of an antlered deer to one permit per calendar year, down from the current two. If adopted, this restriction will take effect in 2027.
- Wild Turkey Regulations (Order CO2): The proposals include shortening the spring season by starting it later and reducing nonresident permits from two to one.
- Mountain Lion Management: Proposed changes will alter the application start times, adjust harvest limits in the Niobrara, Pine Ridge, and Wildcat Hills units, and reduce the number of permits allowed per mountain lion in the harvest limit.
- Small Game & Furbearers (Order CO5): Recommendations include extending the squirrel season through the last day of February.
