Tomorrow, May 17, at 4:00 p.m., the Senate Environment & Agriculture Committee has scheduled two bills of serious concern for Rhode Island sportsmen. Animal rights extremists return year after year working to take small increments of hunting from sportsmen and this year is no different.
Senate Bill 607 prohibits hunting where “man-made structures and/or natural barriers” are designed to limit an animal’s free movement. It is anybody’s guess what this means, but obviously includes roads, rivers, streams, hills, canals, fences, and an infinite multitude of other “obstacles” that exist everywhere in the state.
Senate Bill 746 decimates the trapping community and effective wildlife management by prohibiting the sale of furs and fur products. This one is even more direct: animal extremists are hoping that by destroying the financial incentives undergirding this critical wildlife management tool, the end of trapping in the long term will result. As we previously reported, HB 5258, a similar bill, was heard back in February and the House committee decided to hold it for further study.
Please use our Take Action Button to email the members of the Senate Environment & Agriculture Committee urging them to OPPOSE SB 607 and SB 746. Urge the committee to stop playing politics with Rhode Island’s sportsmen and its long-standing traditions.
Don’t forget to share this important message with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen urging them to also email the committee and urge them to support Rhode Island’s hunting tradition by OPPOSING SB 607 and SB 746.
