The Sportsmen’s Alliance has been monitoring the bills that are of serious concern to the sportsmen of the Old Dominion State.
Unfortunately, we do not have good news to report. At crossover earlier this month, three bills and their companion bills passed their respective committees and house of origin by a Democrat party-line vote. Earlier this week, the Senate bills passed the Senate by a party-line vote and are headed to the governor’s for his consideration. The House companion bills are still moving through the legislative process in the Senate. Sadly, it is safe to assume they will pass by a party-line vote, like their Senate companions. With this being said, Gov. Glenn Youngkin is sportsmen’s last chance to stop these bills from becoming law.
Please use our Take Action button to email Gov. Youngkin urging him to VETO the bills listed below.
Senate Bill 2/House Bill 2 bans the import, sale, transfer, manufacture, and purchase of “assault firearms,” and magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. This bill is nothing more than an anti-gun grab-bag, with modern hunting rifles and accessories pulled into the ban, once again, with no material benefit to public safety.
Senate 491/House Bill 318 institutes new vague laws and restrictions on the already heavily regulated firearms industry. It also authorizes the Attorney General or a district attorney to sue a member of the firearm industry by alleging violations and even potential violations of these laws to the extreme of allowing persons “likely to be harmed” to request equitable relief from a court.
Senate Bill 273/House Bill 1195 imposes an arbitrary 5-business day waiting period on when a sportsman can take possession of their firearm even after clearing their criminal background check.
Don’t forget to forward this alert to your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen. Ask them also to use the Take Action button in this alert to email the governor urging him to VETO all bills anti-sportsmen bills above.
As you are aware, criminals do not follow the laws now, and they certainly will not follow any new laws.
Please stand with me, my family, and the sportsmen community to protect the law-abiding from further restrictions with no public safety value. Please VETO HB 2/SB 2, HB318/SB491, and HB 1195/SB 273.
