On Thursday, May 9, the 2024 Legislative session adjourned sine die. This means the legislative session is completed for the year.
This year, the legislative session was quiet for sportsmen. Only a handful of sportsmen-related bills were introduced, and only one pro-sportsmen bill made it to the governor’s desk, which Governor Kay Ivey promptly signed into law.
As previously reported, SB 281 will protect the credit card purchase privacy of sportsmen and women by prohibiting a financial institution from requiring merchants to use a merchant category code (MCC) or any other indicator to distinguish a firearms retailer from a general merchandise retailer or a sporting goods retailer.
“We thank Governor Ivey and the legislature for passing this critical protection for sportsmen and women,” said Dr. Todd Adkins, vice president of government affairs at the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “This is good government when our elected officials stand up to protect our data and privacy from those who want to destroy our heritage.”
Even though the 2024 legislative session is over, the Government Affairs team will continue to monitor activities in the Heart of Dixie. You never know when sportsmen need to be aware of issues that may arise.
On our interactive map, you can view the bills the Sportsmen’s Alliance monitored during the legislative session. Don’t forget to share this alert and future alerts with your family and friends, as sportsmen throughout the state must continue to stay actively involved in defending our hunting, fishing, and trapping heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.
