In gun-control majority fashion, the Senate Banking and Financial Institutions Committee passed Assembly Bill 1587 by a party-line vote and referred it to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
As we previously reported, after unanimously passing the Assembly, the bill sponsor, Assembly Member Ting, amended AB 1587 to require specified entities that facilitate or process a payment card transaction to track the purchases of firearms and ammunition. In his bill description to the Senate Banking and Financial Institutions Committee, the Assembly Member stated, “the bill is to identify “suspicious activities” and firearms trafficking.” How do sportsmen and gun owners not take this statement as the Golden State wants to surveil the credit card purchases of its residents?
A hearing date has not been scheduled for AB 1587, but we will be monitoring the committee agenda and will inform you as soon as a hearing date has been set. In the meantime, please use our Take Action button to email the members of the committee urging them to OPPOSE AB 1587.
Please share this important alert with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen, as the Golden State needs everyone to stay actively involved in defending our hunting, fishing, and trapping heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.
