After passing the Assembly Public Safety Committee on a Democrat party-line vote, Assembly Bill 28, the bill to require sportsmen and gun owners to pay for criminal activities of others, is scheduled to be heard by the Assembly Revenue and Taxation on Monday, April 24, at 2:30 p.m. in room 126.
AB 28 establishes the Gun Violence Prevention, Healing, and Recovery Fund and imposes an additional 11% tax on the gross receipt from the retail sale of any firearm, firearm precursor part, or ammunition to go towards this fund. The bill specifically blames licensed firearms manufacturers, dealers, and vendors for contributing to “gun violence and broader harms.” Essentially, blaming sportsmen and gun owners for violent crime and forcing us to fund their “feel-good” program that will do nothing to improve public safety in failing big cities that have become overrun with homelessness, drug addiction, and community breakdown.
“Violent crime and community breakdown are societal problems with many causes that should be addressed at the community level,” said Todd Adkins, vice president of government affairs at the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “Instead, anti-gun politicians are once again singling out innocent firearms owners to bear the costs of these failures when they have nothing to do with it.”
Please use our Take Action button below to email the committee urging them to OPPOSE AB 28 and work to solve violent crime instead of forcing the law-abiding to pay for societal problems not of their making.
Don’t forget to share this important message with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen and ask them to also email the committee urging them to OPPOSE AB 28.
