Yesterday, Wednesday, June 21, the Senate Governance & Finance Committee passed Assembly Bill 28, a bill to raise taxes on sportsmen and gun owners in order to fund programs due to the criminal actions of others.
AB 28 establishes the “Gun Violence Prevention, Healing, and Recovery Fund” and imposes an additional 11% tax on the gross receipt from the retail sale of any firearm, firearm precursor part, or ammunition to go toward this fund.
As we previously reported, AB 28 specifically blames licensed firearms manufacturers, dealers, and vendors for contributing to “gun violence and broader harms.” Essentially, blaming sportsmen and gun owners for violent crime and forcing us to fund their “feel-good” programs that will do nothing to improve public safety in failing big cities that have become overrun with homelessness, drug addiction, and community breakdown.
AB 28 has been referred to the Senate Public Safety Committee. A hearing date has not been set and we will inform you as soon as that time and date is available. In the meantime, please use our Take Action button to email the members of the committee urging them to OPPOSE AB 28.
Violent crime is a societal problem with many causes that should be borne by everyone instead of singling out innocent sportsmen and firearms owners.
Don’t forget to share this important alert with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen and ask them to also email the committee urging them to OPPOSE AB 28.
