Sportsmen across the U.S. were stunned to read reports in the media that the Biden Administration was interpreting language in a newly passed gun-control law to ban federal education funding for hunter safety/education classes held at schools along with funding for the popular National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP). According to reports, this decision will pull funding for such programs that are enjoyed by millions of students nationwide at thousands of schools.
Not to be confused with hunter education programs provided by state fish and wildlife agencies through the Pittman-Robertson excise tax program, the funds the Biden Administration are now canceling are provided directly through the U.S. Department of Education for physical education and other extracurricular activities.
“For many years we’ve heard that gun control isn’t about hunting,” said Todd Adkins, vice president of government affairs at the Sportsmen’s Alliance. “In this case, we don’t have to spell it out, the Biden Administration is telling every hunter in America that gun control will be used against them and the millions of youths who enjoy these school-provided programs should go pound sand.”
Every hunter in America needs to reach out to their U.S. Congressman and Senator and let them know they want this funding restored. Biden’s Department of Education isn’t going to fix the problem, so Congress must respond and set things right.
Your Congressman and U.S. Senator hold the key. Tell them you are counting on them to do three things:
- Immediately restore educational funding for programs that support the outdoors, conservation, and hunting.
- Immediately commit to overturning Biden’s hunter education ban.
- Announce your support publicly to help build momentum throughout Congress to get this done.
Please use our Take Action button to ensure your U.S. Congressman and Senator receives your email urging them to ensure funding for these important life programs gets reinstated
