Gun control advocates want to tax sportsmen and gun owners as yet another way to get citizens to give up their freedom. Tomorrow, Feb. 22, the House Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee will meet at 9 a.m. – virtually and in person – in room 2E of the Legislative Office Building to take public testimony on House Bill 5653.
H.5653 imposes an additional 2-cent per-round tax on .22 caliber and smaller calibers and an additional 5-cent per-round increase on all other ammunition. The taxes will be used to fund pet projects of the Commission on Community Gun Violence Intervention and Prevention.
Established last year, the Commission on Community Gun Violence Intervention and Prevention is tasked with advising the Department of Public Health on statewide gun violence intervention and prevention programs. Gov. Lamont has not been shy on his stance on firearms, recently announcing his third set of proposals to eliminate what he is calling “gun violence,” but sportsmen and gun owners know different. Gov. Lamont is out to eliminate firearm ownership under the guise of gun violence prevention and public safety.
Please use our Take Action button to email the members of the committee and urge them to oppose H.5653. Don’t forget to share this message with your family, friends and fellow sportsmen, and ask them to also email the members of the committee.
