Georgia’s pro-sportsmen legislators are working hard to ensure that the merchant category codes (MCC) to track firearm and ammunition purchases with credit cards never come to the Peach State.
House Bill 1018, a bill to protect sportsmen’s credit card purchase privacy rights, passed the House by a vote of 106 to 60. It now moves to the Senate for further consideration.

HB 1018 prohibits a financial entity from using a firearms merchant category code to distinguish a firearms retailer from other retailers thus preventing firearms, firearms accessories, and ammunition from being specifically singled out purchases with a credit card. It also prohibits persons or government entities from keeping registries of firearms or owners of firearms.
Unfortunately, California, the state that never says no to an opportunity to attack law-abiding sportsmen and gun owners, passed legislation into law allowing credit purchases of firearms and ammunition to be tracked. Big credit card companies are moving forward to comply with California’s new law. This means it is now more important than ever for Georgia to protect its sportsmen and gun owners’ credit card purchase privacy rights.
