Due to inclement weather, the House Business Affairs & Labor Committee was unable to meet to hear three bills of serious concern to sportsmen. As of today, March 15, only one of the three bills has been rescheduled to be heard by the committee.
Senate Bill 24-066, the bill to track sportsmen’s credit card purchases, has been rescheduled to be heard on Thursday, March 21.
SB24-066 allows credit companies and payment processors to use merchant category codes (MCC) to track credit card purchases of firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition.
The committee meets on Wednesdays and Thursdays. We expect the following hostile bills to be rescheduled next week and will continue to monitor their status. In the meantime, if you have not emailed the committee, there is still time to use our Take Action button to ensure they hear your OPPOSITION to SB24-066, HB24-1353, and HB24-1270.

House Bill 24-1353 creates a duplicative state permitting system for federally regulated firearm license holders. It also adds additional conditions and requirements for dealers, random inspections, and severe penalties for violations. Federal Firearm Licensed (FFL) dealers are already required to be licensed by the federal government and are highly regulated.
We all know dealers will have no choice but to add additional costs to comply with this new permit and additional requirements to their merchandise, leaving law-abiding sportsmen paying higher prices because the state cannot figure out how to handle the criminal element.
House Bill 24-1270, firearm liability insurance, requires firearm owners to maintain a liability insurance policy that covers losses or damages to a person, other than the policyholder, who is injured on the insured property as a result of any accidental or unintentional discharge of the firearm.
Gun-control advocates claim that requiring insurance will “promote” responsible firearm ownership, along with being able to use the insurance money to offset the cost of violent crime caused by criminals. This tactic, however, is nothing more than an attempt to punish us, the law-abiding, by making us pay for the criminal acts of others.
Remember to share this important alert with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen. Ask them to contact the committee members, urging them to vote “No” on SB24-066, HB24-1353, and HB24-1270.
