Yesterday, March 12, the Minnesota House Public Safety Finance and Policy Committee heard public testimony on a bill that opens the floodgates for localities to institute their own gun control legislation. This will lead to a patchwork of gun restrictions, and many local jurisdictions will immediately go to outright firearm and possession bans.
House File 3672 repeals the complete section of Minnesota’s firearm preemption law.
This law is vital for sportsmen and gun owners as it prevents unsuspecting sportsmen from becoming criminals when crossing unknown jurisdiction lines. Sportsmen should not have to worry about breaking the law to own and legally use a firearm for hunting, shooting, or self-defense.
The committee laid over the bill, which means it will not receive a vote now, but it could possibly be included in a public safety omnibus bill later.
The Sportsmen’s Alliance will continue to monitor HF 3672. We will alert you should action be needed to oppose HF 3672 or should the language appear in an omnibus bill.
