Tomorrow, Thursday, March 12, the House Environment and Natural Resources Finance and Policy Committee is scheduled to hear HF 1531, a bill to continue the use of crossbow hunting and fishing in the Hawkeye State.
Use the Take Action button to contact the committee and urge them to vote “Yes” on HF 1531.
What HF 1531 Does for Minnesota Hunters
- Removes the Sunset Clause: Under current law, the allowance for all archery hunters to use a crossbow was set to expire (sunset) on June 30, 2026.
- Makes Crossbow Use Permanent: This bill eliminates that expiration date, making the use of crossbows a permanent fixture for hunting deer, bear, turkey, common carp, and native rough fish during their respective regular archery seasons.
Why This is Good for Hunters
The Sportsmen’s Alliance believes that hunters should have the flexibility to choose the tools that best suit their needs. HF 1531 is a win for Minnesota sportsmen because:
- Long-Term Clarity: It removes the “rolling” uncertainty of whether your preferred equipment will remain legal from one season to the next.
- Increased Opportunity: Permanent crossbow access allows more hunters, including youth, seniors, and those with physical limitations, to stay in the field longer and participate in archery seasons.
- Consistent Regulations: By removing the sunset, Minnesota joins many other states in recognizing crossbows as a legitimate and effective tool for wildlife management and heritage preservation.
How to Attend the Hearing
