Tomorrow, May 15, several sportsmen-related bills will be heard in the Judiciary Committee.
First on the scheduled is a public hearing at 9:30 a.m. in State House room 423 on pro-sportsmen bill LD 1867, which prohibits financial institutions from using merchant category codes to identify or track firearm purchases or disclose firearm purchase records.

At 10 a.m., the following bills are scheduled for work session and a possible vote.
Pro-sportsmen bills LD 208 and LD 1230 both eliminate the 72-hour waiting period on firearm purchases.
Anti-sportsmen bill LD 821 requires federal firearm licensed dealers to install additional security measures certified by a federal or state agency, a not-for-profit organization, or another entity specializing in security alarm standards approved by the Department of Public Safety on their place of business. Even the Maine State Police and Department of Public Safety have submitted testimony opposing this unnecessary and burdensome bill.
