As previously reported, anti-hunting legislators hijacked the original House Omnibus Environment Spending bill, HB 2310, and inserted a wolf hunt ban amendment, forever stopping the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) from implementing a season in the future.
There is no wolf hunt in Minnesota now, but animal extremists wanted the amendment to make sure there never is one, even when the science supports it and wolves have been delisted from the Endangered Species Act.
Because each chamber passed a different version of the bill, HF 2310 now goes to the conference committee, where five members from each chamber will hammer out the differences. Among these differences are the wolf hunt ban amendment, which was NOT added to the bill during Senate deliberations.
The committee will be meeting Monday, May 1, at 9 a.m. in room 123 Capitol on HF 2310.
It is absolutely imperative that sportsmen reach out to conference committee members and let them know that the wolf hunt ban should not be part of the final bill adopted by the committee. Please use our Take Action button to ensure the members of the committee receive your request for them to OPPOSE the House wolf ban amendment.
“Hijacking a spending bill is not the way to pass an extreme policy change such as a ban on wolf hunting,” said Todd Adkins, vice president of government affairs at Sportsmen’s Alliance. “If they want to corrupt wildlife management by canceling hunting seasons, then they better do that through the normal legislative process where people have an opportunity to participate.”
Don’t forget to share this critical alert with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen asking them to also email the committee urging them to OPPOSE the House wolf hunt ban.
