Yesterday, Wednesday, March 1, the House Civil Justice Committee passed two bills of interest to sportsmen on a voice vote. These bills will now move to the House floor for consideration. A consideration date has not been set yet, but rest assured the Sportsmen’s Alliance will inform you when action is needed.
House Bill 395 allows persons who are not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a handgun to carry a handgun while hunting, so long as the handgun is not used for the taking of the game. HB 395 conforms hunting regulations with the state’s permitless carry law.
House Bill 1189 protects Tennessee’s firearm industry from those who want to destroy the sporting community with crippling lawsuits against firearms manufacturers for the violent acts of third parties. Lawful firearm manufacturers and firearm dealers should not be responsible for crimes committed by third parties outside of their control.
