Pro-sportsmen bills, SB 494 and SB 822, were not heard on Tuesday, March 7, and have been rescheduled to be heard on Monday, March 13 at 1:00 p.m. in Senate Hearing Room 1 of the Cordell Hull Building. The committee does have a big agenda and has already announced they will also be meeting Tuesday, March 14 at 3:00 p.m. for those bills not heard on Monday.
Senate Bill 494, the companion bill to House Bill 395, allows persons who are not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a handgun to carry a handgun while hunting, so long as the handgun is not used for the taking of game. HB 395 conforms hunting regulations with Tennessee permitless carry law.
Senate Bill 822, the companion bill to House Bill 1189 protects Tennessee’s firearm industry from those who want to destroy the sporting community with crippling lawsuits against firearms manufacturers for the violent acts of third parties. Lawful firearm manufacturers and firearm dealers should not be responsible for crimes committed by third parties outside of their control.
