Tennessee: Pro-Sportsmen Bills Still Moving

On Monday, March 13, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed Senate Bill 494 7 to 2 out of committee. Both SB 494 and its companion bill are now ready to be heard on their respective chamber floor. Please use our take action button to email your state Senator and Representative asking them to support SB 494 and HB 395.

Senate Bill 494/House Bill 395 allows persons who are not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a handgun to carry a handgun while hunting, so long as the handgun is not used for the taking of game. HB 395 conforms hunting regulations with Tennessee permitless carry law.

Yesterday, the committee deferred action on Senate Bill 822 to Tuesday, March 21. SB 822 companion bill, HB 1189, has already passed the House and has been transmitted to the Senate. The Sportsmen’s Alliance will continue to monitor HB 1189 and will inform you when action is needed.

Senate Bill 822/House Bill 1189 protects Tennessee’s firearm industry from those who want to destroy the sporting community with crippling lawsuits against firearms manufacturers for the violent acts of third parties. Lawful firearm manufacturers and firearm dealers should not be responsible for crimes committed by third parties outside of their control.

Don’t forget to share this message with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen asking them to also email their state Representative urging them to SUPPORT SB 494 and HB 395.
