The U.S. Sportsmen’s Alliance Foundation’s (USSAF) Trailblazer Adventure Program was recently awarded the “Community Partner” honor from the American Heritage Girls (AHG), a faith-based scouting organization for girls.
The “Community Partner” award is given to programs that enhance the AHG experience and advance their mission and vision. The honor was presented during AHG’s National Leadership Conference held this year in Centreville, Virginia.
AHG and Trailblazer signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2012 and have since introduced 14 AHG troops and over 1,800 girls and their families to outdoor activities such as shooting sports, archery, fishing and a host of other hands-on outdoor related activities.
“We are honored to receive this unexpected award from AHG,” said Keilee Guthrie, USSAF associate director of education, who attended the conference in Virginia. “Introducing outdoor activities to girls is a priority of the Trailblazer program and AHG has been exceptional to work with.”
As part of the MOU, Trailblazer staff developed an age-appropriate shooting sport’s badge for AHG troops. The badge program will be utilized starting in 2015 for AHG members to introduce girls to the shooting sports world.
“Females are the fastest growing segment in the hunting community,” said Guthrie. “It is great to see AHG troops so excited about hosting their own Trailblazer events and getting their girls started in the outdoor world. We are excited to continue this partnership for many years to come.”
