Last week, the Kansas 2023 legislation session adjourned sine die. This means the regular legislative session is completed for the year.
This year, the legislative session was quiet for sportsmen with only House Bill 2304 making it to Gov. Kelly’s desk, which she unfortunately vetoed again. She vetoed a similar bill in 2021. HB 2304 would have allowed public schools to offer standardized firearms safety education that would have taught grade school through high school children what to do if they find or encounter a firearm, as well as accident prevention education.
Sadly, the veto override failed due to Rep. David Younger changing his original support of HB 2304 on the House floor to a no vote during the veto override vote.
Even though the 2023 legislative session is over, the Sportsmen’s Alliance will continue to monitor activities in the Sunflower State as you never know when issues that sportsmen need to be aware of may arise.

Please share this message with your family and friends, as sportsmen throughout Kansas must continue to stay actively involved to defend our hunting, fishing, and trapping heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.
