Earlier this week, the Montana 2023 legislation session adjourned sine die. This means the legislative session is completed. The following bills were sent to Gov. Greg Gianforte, which he signed into law.
HB 73 repeals the surety bond requirements for Fish, Wildlife & Parks (FWP) license agents.
HB 131 removes the 24-hour wait requirement for wolf license.
HB 133 allows nonresident college students to purchase FWP licenses online.
HB 162 allows any species that requires a carcass tag to be tagged electronically.
HB 356 establishes firearms industry nondiscrimination.
HB 584 revises government lawsuit laws relating to firearms and ammunition.
SB 76 removes the requirement to attach paper tags to a game animal carcass.
On April 21, SB 359, important legislation protecting Montana’s sportsmen credit card purchases passed the Senate and will be transmitted to the governor’s desk any day for his consideration.
SB 359 prohibits a financial institution from applying a code or otherwise denoting or recording a transaction with information (such as firearms) that is different from that of a general transaction.
Montana is one of four states that has a biennial legislative session and will return to Helena in 2025. The Sportsmen’s Alliance will continue to monitor activities in the Treasure State as you never know when issues that sportsmen need to be aware of may arise.
