Yesterday, April 25th, Tennessee’s 2024 legislative session adjourned sine die, which means the session is completed for the year.
It was a good year for Tennesseans. Governor Bill Lee signed two bills into law to further protect the Volunteer State’s sportsmen. Additionally, several anti-sportsman bills failed to progress through the legislative process.
The most recent bill signed into law by the Governor is Senate Bill 2223/House Bill 2762, the “Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act. This important legislation protects Tennessee’s sportsmen’s credit card purchase privacy by prohibiting a financial institution or its agents from using a firearms merchant category code (MCC) by a firearms retailer physically located in this state in a manner that distinguishes a firearms retailer from a general merchandise retailer or a sporting goods retailer.
As previously reported, HB 2263 was signed into law on March 27th. HB 2263 requires Fish and Wildlife Commission appointees to be actively involved in activities regulated by the commission, including hunting, angling, trapping, and boating. The bill does not stop there it also states that the commission and the agency shall support and promote hunting, angling, and trapping, including the management of predators through hunting and trapping, as preferred methods of wildlife management and conservation.

Even though the 2024 legislative session is over, the Sportsmen’s Alliance will continue to monitor activities in the Volunteer State. You never know when issues that sportsmen need to be aware of may arise.
