As we previously reported, Assemblymember Phil Ting, a proud advocate of gun control, “gutted and amended” his own bill, which unanimously passed as a multifamily bill into a bill to track the credit card purchases of law-abiding sportsmen.
Assembly Bill 1587 now requires specified entities that facilitate or process a payment card transaction to track the purchases of firearms and ammunition.
It is time for sportsmen to take action as AB 1587 has been scheduled to be heard in the Senate Banking and Financial Institutions Committee next Wednesday, July 5 at 1:30 p.m. in room 2100. Please use our Take Action button to email the members of the committee urging them to OPPOSE AB 1587.
Back in March, the credit card companies decided not to implement the International Organizations for Standardization (ISO) new merchant code to track firearm and ammunition transactions. In an article in Fox Business by Chris Pandolfo, “Visa said, ‘significant confusion and legal uncertainty in the payments ecosystem’ are reason for the pause.”
The credit card companies already recognize the legal issues that will arise with the implementation of AB 1587 and are obviously not willing to go to court over it.
Please share this important alert with your family, friends and fellow sportsmen, as the Golden State needs everyone to stay actively involved in defending our hunting, fishing, and trapping heritage for present and future generations to enjoy.
