Current New Hampshire law protects firearm manufacturers and dealers from being held liable for the criminal misuse of firearms by others. On Thursday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m., in room 206-208, this important protection will be under attack. The House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to hear House Bill 1037 in Executive Session and receive a possible vote.
HB 1037 repeals the limited liability for manufacturers, distributors, dealers, or importers of firearms or ammunition, leaving them open to lawsuits based on the criminal misuse of a firearm by another. No one should expect lawful firearm manufacturers and firearm dealers to be responsible for crimes they do not commit, but HB 1037 will allow just that.
Please use our Take Action button to email the committee members asking them to OPPOSE HB 1037. They need to know firearms are an important tool for sportsmen and HB 1037 will only cripple the firearm industry, making it nearly impossible to engage in the lawful sale and/or trade of firearms. Not only does HB 1037 make it hard for sportsmen to continue New Hampshire’s long hunting traditions, but it will also make it harder to manage the wildlife in the Granite State.
Some good news, the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee voted to recommend “ought to pass” on House Bill 1186 when it is brought before the full House.
HB 1186 prohibits a person or entity involved in facilitating or processing an electronic payment transaction and licensed to do business in this state, including a payment card issuer or payment card network, from assigning it to a merchant or requiring a merchant to use a firearms code. The bill also states for the purposes of the sale of firearms, ammunition for use in firearms, and firearms accessories, a firearms retailer may not provide a firearms code to a payment card issuer or payment card network and may only use or be assigned a merchant category code for general merchandise retailers or sporting goods retailers.
Please use our Take Action button to email your state Representative urging them to protect New Hampshire’s sportsmen and support HB 1186.
Please make sure you use both Take Action buttons to ensure the House Judiciary and your state Representative receive your requests to Oppose HB 1037 and Support HB 1186.
Don’t forget to share this alert with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen urging them also to Take Action to ensure all of New Hampshire’s sportsmen voices are heard opposing HB 1037 and supporting HB 1186.
