Earlier this week was crossover day for the Washington legislature. This means bills that did not pass out of their house of origin are essentially defeated for the year.
We wish we could report just good news to you. Unfortunately, that is not the case. The Evergreen State needs its sportsmen and gun owners to Take Action TODAY emailing members of the House Civil Rights and Judiciary Committee and the Senate Law and Justice Committee urging them to respectively OPPOSE SB 5985, HB 1903, and HB 2118.
As previously reported, these bills will not protect the public from gun violence like gun-control advocates tout. These bills will ONLY add more restrictions and bureaucratic red tape for sportsmen, preventing us from enjoying our hunting heritage in the Evergreen state.
Please make sure you use both Take Action buttons to ensure the respective committees hear your OPPOSITION to these restrictive bills.
Today, at 10:30 a.m., the House Civil Rights and Judiciary Committee is scheduled to take public comment on SB 5985. It is already scheduled for Executive session and a vote on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 10:30 a.m. Please use our Take Action button below to email the committee members urging them to OPPOSE SB 5985.
Senate Bill 5985 places the unconstitutional provisions of the recent ban on commonly owned firearms into the section of the state code on background checks.
On Monday, Feb. 19, the Senate Law and Justice Committee is scheduled to take public testimony on House 1903 and HB 2118. Executive session and a vote is scheduled to take place the very next day, Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 10:30 a.m. Please use our Take Action button below to email the committee members urging them to OPPOSE HB 1903 and HB 2118.
House Bill 1903 further victimizes law-abiding gun owners and sportsmen holding us liable for theft of our property by penalizing us for failing to report a missing or stolen firearm within 24 hours.
House Bill 2118 mandates additional costly requirements for licensed firearms dealers (FFLs) to continue to operate their businesses.
Now some good news! The bills below have been defeated. Note: Even though these bills are essentially dead for the year, a procedural move could still be made to revive any bill. Rest assured; we will continue to monitor these bills until the 2024 legislative session has reached sine die.
SB 6294 bans the sale, offer for sale, display for sale, trade, or otherwise distribute for monetary or nonmonetary consideration a fur product in the state.
SB 5963 requires firearm owners to obtain insurance covering losses or damages resulting from the accidental or unintentional discharge of the firearm, including, but not limited to, death or injury to persons who are not insured person under the policy and property damage.
House Bill 2238 imposes an additional 11% excise tax on ammunition.
House Bill 2054 prohibits a firearm dealer from transferring or selling more than one firearm to a law-abiding sportsman in a 30-day period.
House Bill 1902 requires all individuals to obtain a permit with live-fire training to purchase firearms. An Oregon judge recently held a similar permitting scheme unconstitutional.
Don’t forget to share this important alert with your family, friends, and fellow sportsmen asking them to also use both Take Action buttons to email committee members asking them to OPPOSE SB 5985, HB 1903, and HB 2118. We must work together to stop the cratering of firearm ownership in the Evergreen State for today, tomorrow, and our future generations.
