Last Friday, May 24, was the deadline for bills to pass their house of origin or they would be defeated for the legislative year.
The following bills of concern to sportsmen and gun owners made it through crossover and have been referred to the Assembly Public Safety Committee. A hearing date has not been scheduled.
Keep an eye on your inbox as the Government Affairs team will continue to monitor these bills, along with sportsmen-related issues around the state, and inform you when action is needed.
Senate Bill 53 mandates firearms in the home to be stored in a locked box or safe that is listed on the California Department of Justice approved firearm safety devices and the firearm cannot be accessed by any person other than the owner.
As previously reported, Senate Bill 1253 required all firearm owners to obtain a firearm safety certificate (FSC) to possess a firearm, not to just purchase and receive a firearm. The bill has been amended to require any person moving into the state to obtain an FSC within 120 days after arriving in the state.
Do not forget to share these alerts with your family, friends, fellow sportsmen, and gun owners. The Golden State needs all its sportsmen and gun owners to stay actively involved in the fight to protect hunting, shooting, and self-defense for future generations.
